Prospector & Developers Association of Canada
The Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (PDAC) is the national voice of Canada’s mineral exploration and development industry. It’s mission is to promote a responsible, vibrant and sustainable Canadian mineral exploration sector; and it encourages leading practices in technical, environmental, safety and social performance in Canada and internationally. PDAC is also known worldwide for its annual convention in Toronto.
Mining Watch Canada
Created in 1999, Mining Watch Canada is a pan-national organization supported by environmental, social justice, Aboriginal and labour organizations to address the need for a coordinated public interest response to mining and mineral policies and practices in Canada and around the world. They have been actively following the Ring of Fire mining development.
Rodney Thomas, President, Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada (interview September 30, 2014)
Rodney Thomas is currently the President of the Prospectors & Developers Association of Canada. Mr. Thomas has worked for senior and junior mining companies as an exploration geologist and executive. Mr. Thomas is a strong advocate of the mineral exploration and development industry as a primary driver of wealth creation in Canada and around the world. Mr. Thomas spoke about PDAC’s activities and the significance of the Ring of Fire mining development.
Ramsey Hart, Canada Program Coordinator, Mining Watch Canada (interview May 12, 2014)
At the time of his interview, Ramsey Hart was the Canada Program Coordinator. The Canada Program Coordinator position with Mining Watch Canada focuses on Canadian, provincial and territorial mining policy development, review of individual mining projects through environmental assessments, and provides technical and logistical support to communities affected by mineral exploration and mining projects. Mr. Hart explains what Mining Watch Canada does and its activities related to the Ring of Fire mining projects.
